As we guide you along your yoga journey, we invite you to learn more about our instructors.
Why I Love Yoga: I want to be flexible, strong, healthy and peaceful as I age. Yoga gives me the opportunity to explore both my body and mind to find the right balance for me. I find I smile more and can see the Light in others when I practice. For me, yoga is joy.
Training: My first certification in yoga came in 2009, which is also the first year I began to teach. Prior to teaching yoga, I taught general fitness classes (step, circuit training, conditioning, etc.) at a health club for approximately ten years. Over the years, I continued teaching and taking additional yoga trainings, including Seniors, Props, Prenatal, Sweat/Hot, and many others. I am now a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through YogaFit as well as Yoga Alliance. I am trained primarily in Hatha Vinyasa yoga.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: I want to share a peaceful presence…guiding, nurturing and always emphasizing that each of us is always enough.
Why I Love Yoga: I came to yoga because of lower back, hip and neck issues. I had been treated by a chiropractor, was in physical therapy twice, and was seeing a doctor to manipulate my bones. I started my yoga journey to increase my body awareness and learn more about the poses and alignment. As I practiced regularly, not only did my body heal but I grew stronger, more flexible and more focused. What I love about yoga is that what we learn on the mat transfers off the mat and into our lives – without intention or realization. I have become happier in my life and in my skin, more confident and self-assured.
Training: I am a 200 hour RYT certified instructor, and completed specialty trainings in Anatomy, Seniors, Prenatal, Props and Back.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: Every body is different. Every day we are different. Each time we step on our mat, our practice will be different. Resting in the knowledge that whatever we bring to the mat is sufficient – we are enough. By focusing on breath, body awareness and alignment, creating spaciousness and connecting with the sacred, what we learn on the mat transfers to our lives and we live with “effortless effort” and joy.
Why I Love Yoga: I am continually inspired by yoga’s transformative power both internally and externally and I find it to be a source of love and strength. It connects us to each other, nature and one’s self. I feel so grateful to be sharing this practice with so many people for the first time.
Training: I have been practicing yoga since 1984. I had the privilege of attending college on the West Coast and loved the practice from the beginning. I was lucky enough to be exposed to many amazing teachers along the way. I decided to take my practice to the next level. I feel we are so blessed to have a designated yoga studio in our town and know it was meant to be for me to follow this path. I am a 200 hour RYT certified instructor, and I have taken many specialty trainings, including Kids, PreNatal, and Seniors.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: My goal in each and every class is to nurture and guide each student to their individual potential, while creating an atmosphere of warmth, love and gratitude. Also, to take the gifts you have learned beyond your mat into everyday life.
Why I Love Yoga: I love the strength and flexibility I get from yoga, but the reason I really love yoga and need it in my life, is that when I am on my mat, I am not late, overscheduled or busy – I am simply in the moment. When I leave my mat, I take that back to the rest of my life.
Training: I completed my 200 RYT at Namaste Yoga in Royal Oak, Michigan in May of 2000. I taught in the Metro Detroit area at a variety of facilities before I moved to Coldwater. I took a break from teaching when my kids were very little. I am very excited to be teaching yoga again!
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: How yoga can improve your life off of the mat. That while the physical benefits of yoga are amazing and essential, as we age, the space it can create in your life is even more transforming. Yoga can create peace, joy and patience, and give us the space to accomplish things we never felt we could.
Why I Love Yoga: I love yoga because it is such an all-around good workout! You get both a physical and a mental challenge! You focus on so much more than how you move and why you move . . . you also get to explore and ask what are you moving for? It helps relax you and strengthen you, and it helps you explore your body and all the possibilities that are within it that you as a person have to find out about all on your own!
Training: I have completed my 200 RYT with Intentional Yoga of Kalamazoo, Michigan. A lot of my personal growth was through DVDs and local classes around my community.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: Breath work! I strongly focus on breathing in my classes! Imagine a world where a person takes a few calming breaths before they act! Oh, the possibilities! And, remember to smile while you practice – it’s just yoga!!
Why I Love Yoga: Yoga changed my life! I use to suffer with depression from Menopause, and weight gain. A close friend suggested Yoga to me, and it completely changed my body, mind, and spirit. Learning through breath, asanas (postures), and meditation, I am mentally, spiritually, physically stronger than I have ever been in my life. I am more mindful of myself and of others. I have found a calm, more peaceful way of living, on and off my mat.
Training: My training was completed at Village Yoga Center, Modesto, California. My Certification is 200 RYT, through “Art Of Yoga”. I became a member of Yoga Alliance in March 2014. I trained in Restorative, Gentle, Vinyasa Flow, Pre-Natal, Pranayama (breathing exercises), Back Care, Hip Openers, Core Strengthening, and Alignment.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: I want to share my Love for Yoga with everyone. Yoga reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, increases flexibility, balances emotions. Yoga is truly a life changing force, creating balance in all aspects of your life. Relaxing and energizing. Learning to be fully present in the moment. Finding your inner stillness and your true being. Yoga is a journey of a 1000 miles, beginning with one small step. Namaste!
Training: Starting in September 2008, I accomplished my first yoga certification through YogaFit. By 2009, I was teaching a couple of classes a week within the greater Lansing community and continually working on further certifications. I have completed my 200 hour RYT through YogaFit and Yoga Alliance.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: Become an explorer, like me. I have been practicing yoga for the last 13 years and it is a life-style changer. I joined a class with one of my best friends and never looked back. Before practicing yoga once a week, I was experiencing lower back pain from sitting behind a desk, had no abdominal strength, and was unbalanced and weak in the upper body (from hunching over a computer). Since then, I am pain free and I have found a fabulous journey. I look forward to sharing my passion with you and may we continue the journey together!
Why I Love Yoga: I love yoga because of the sense of awareness that comes from doing the practice. There is a subtle connection or spark that fires during practice that carries with you on and off the mat. Through this connection we create the space to accept our place and roles in this moment, allowing ourselves to shine out, reaching the rest of our environments.
Training: My practice and teaching started after returning from a six month stay at Kripalu Yoga Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. After teaching on and off for years, I received my 200 RYT and 500 RYT certification from Sangha Yoga Studios in Kalamazoo, under the guidance of Devadas Karina Ayn Mirsky.
What I Want to Share with Yoga Students: I would like to share with my students that through curiosity and consistent practice anyone can experience an awakening, an “aha” moment, a physical boundary that has been overcome, a sense of joy and union that is Yoga.
